The Best Ladders For DIY And Their Uses

Posted on by Andrew Alty
Since the pandemic started, many of you homeowners took it upon yourselves to make some home improvements using the well-known DIY method. Whether it’s to increase your homes financial value or to simply make it a more functional and enjoyable place for you and your family, the right equipment is essential to completing those tasks which you have been putting off.

An essential piece of equipment which can help you achieve just that, is a ladder. However, its important to know which type of ladder to use for each task.

This is where we step in and help you make an informative choice.

Step Ladders

Step LaddersStep ladders are probably the most popular ones as they can be used anywhere. They are self-supporting which means you won’t need to lean them against anything to complete your job.

There are two types of step ladders; theres the front step ladder and the twin step ladder.

The front step ladder has rungs (steps) on one side to help you climb, whereas the other side is used for support only. The twin step ladder is the most favoured as it has rungs on either side allowing you to climb whichever side is most convinient while also allowing you to ask a friend to climb them with you.

Both types of step ladders have rubber feet and are connected with a top cap. The spreaders, which join both sides, lock, stopping the ladders from buckling.

Extension Ladders

Extension Ladders

Extension ladders on the other hand are not self-supporting and need to be
leant against something in order to make them stable and ready to use. However, extension ladders can reach greater hights which makes them ideal for cleaning out the gutter, repairing the roof or painting the exterior of the house.

They have non-skid feet, a base which stays on the ground and a fly which slides upwards with the help of hooks, allowing you to reach higher up.

Telescopic Ladders

Telescopic LaddersA variation of the extension ladder is the telescopic ladder which extends and locks by the foot to the user’s desired hight. Telescopic ladders fold down small to be ultra-compact making them more versatile, portable and convinient. For user safety, they are fitted with a strong stabiliser bar with rubber moulded feet for long lasting durability and feature controlled retraction to help prevent trapped fingers.

Folding Ladders

Folding ladders are similar to front step ladders as only one side is used to climb. Some folding ladders come with a large versatile tool tray and a handy tool holder handle allowing you to keep your tools near by whilst working at a height. Although they can be smaller in size, they can withstand up to 150kg.
