The importance of decontamination products to help control the spread of COVID-19

Over the last five months, the emergence of a new strain of the coronavirus—named COVID-19—has dominated the news as it is a global health concern. Latest figures show that there have been over 11,500,000 cases confirmed so far, with the vast majority of these being in the USA and Brazil. Here at worXmart, we wanted to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and so we have sourced a wide range of COVID-19 prevention items to help businesses to continue to trade safely.

Coronavirus is the name given to a large group of viruses that can cause severe infections in the respiratory tract in humans. The newest strain, COVID-19, usually infects people for between 2 to 10 days and is spread via droplets which are coughed or sneezed out, via contamination on the hands or via clothing.

Scientists working on the Coronavirus, have done a review of previous studies of the virus, such as the SARS-CoV virus in 2003, and they have found that human coronavirus, like COVID-19, can live on surfaces such as glass and metal for up to 9 days—something that we didn’t know before.

In fact, researchers at the Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine at the Greifswald University Hospital in Germany found that the virus lives for 4 to 5 days on average—but this lifespan can be lengthened if the virus is subjected to low temperatures and air humidity.

One of the most important findings, however, was that the use of a surface disinfectant product can significantly reduce the efficiency of the virus, in as little as one minute exposure time.
